Election 2008 Steadfast190

This is a very important time for our country as we prepare to elect the next President of the United States.  Matthew 10:33 says, "whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven." As Christians it is important for us to make our voices heard by casting our votes.  Although no candidate will be perfect, we want to honor God by voting for the candidate that most closely aligns with His word, not only in the presidential election but in local elections as well.  If we do this, our country can truly move in the right direction.  However, the only way to cast a vote that honors God is to become an educated voter.  Here are some tips for getting ready for the election:

  • Know the issues.  Some of the major issues are the war in Iraq, the economy, abortion, marriage, healthcare, the environment, immigration and education.

  • Study the Bible for guidance on these issues.  The Bible is God's guide to daily living.  It is true and as applicable today as when it was written.  A good place to start is rereading the Ten Commandments.

  • Research the candidates and the political platform that they are associated with.  What does the candidate believe about each of these issues?  What are their plans to address them?  Do their plans make sense to you?  Don't base your vote on campaign commercials.  They are just that, commercials.

  • Most importantly, pray that God will give you discernment and guidance as you prepare to cast your vote.  You want your vote to honor Him.

Here are a few resources that can help you research the issues from a Christian perspective:

Let's vote as Christians, not as Democrats or Republicans.  Let's honor God so that He will continue to bless our great nation!
